Subaru Forester
What sort of ground clearance do you get with a Subaru Forester?
So what does that mean in real terms?
So the Subaru Forester is a proper off road car, must be thirsty on fuel then?
Can I have an automatic Subaru Forester?
I heard that SUV's are expensive to insure though?
Will the Subaru Forester tow my Caravan?
So it's a 4x4 that will do 45 miles per gallon, I bet it's a bit sluggish?
So the Subaru Forester looks good and goes well, but don't 4x4s handle really badly?
I've had a Subaru Forester for years but this new one is far too big for me...
But what about the environment? Don't 4x4's pollute more than other cars?
The Subaru Forester is a medium sized SUV (sports utility vehicle). It is all things to all men - and women! The Subaru Forester is a practical and spacious estate vehicle, a highly capable and versatile off road car, a smooth and refined family car, whatever you need to do and where ever you want to go the Forester is the tool for the job.
What sort of ground clearance do you get with a Subaru Forester?
The ground clearance is 215mm on the new Subaru Forester.
So what does that mean in real terms?
Well let us see how it compares to the competition:
- Landrover Freelander has 210mm
- Toyota Rav 4 has 182mm
- Honda CRV has 185mm
- VW Tiguan has 189mm
- Ford Kuga… we gave up looking! If anybody knows then please let us know!
I don't think we need to say anything further.
So the Subaru Forester is a proper off road car, must be thirsty on fuel then?
You would have thought so, but the Subaru Forester with the new boxer diesel engine is the most economical in its class with a combined fuel economy of 44.8 MPG; the Subaru Forester is miles ahead of the competition. This also gives the Subaru Forester a class leading range of 620 miles.
Isn't there a 4x4 tax now?
No such tax exists, road tax and the new showroom tax are purely based on CO2 emissions, large 4x4s tend to have high emissions and therefore can be over £400 a year to tax. The new Subaru Forester has a class leading road tax of £180 a year.
Can I have an automatic Subaru Forester?
Yes the Subaru Forester is available as an automatic with the 2.0 petrol engine.
I heard that SUV's are expensive to insure though?
They can be but the Subaru Forester is only group 9, which is – yes, you guessed it, class leading!
Will the Subaru Forester tow my Caravan?
The Subaru Forester is a fantastic car for caravan towing. It will tow up to 2,000kg and all models come with self-levelling suspension, the Subaru Forester provides a comfortable and smooth ride and with the symmetrical all-wheel drive you won't get stuck in even the boggiest of camp sites.
So it's a 4x4 that will do 45 miles per gallon, I bet it's a bit sluggish?
Not at all, 0-62mph in only 10.4 seconds on the diesel model, and a top speed of 116mph, the Subaru Forester is certainly no slouch.
So the Subaru Forester looks good and goes well, but don't 4x4s handle really badly?
Well one of the major benefits to having a boxer engine and a symmetrical all wheel drive system is that all the weight of the engine and drive train is positioned low down and central in the chassis, this means that the car has a very low centre of gravity so the Subaru Forster will corner much flatter, with very little body roll, this is the ideal set up for a great handling car.
I've had a Subaru Forester for years but this new one is far too big for me
The new Subaru Forester is bigger than the old one but looks are deceiving. In fact the new Subaru Forester is only 7.5cm (or 3 inches) longer and 4.5cm (or 1.77 inches) wider than the old Forester, the reason that it looks bigger is down to an increase in height due to the new style roof bars. The slight increase in size gives the new Subaru Forester a whopping 63 litres of extra boot space with the seats up and more front and rear leg and head room.
But what about the environment? Don't 4x4's pollute more than other cars?
Generally speaking they do, however, the Subaru Forester diesel is not a great big lumbering gas guzzling 4x4, we have already talked about its class leading MPG, but how is this achieved? Well the brand new boxer diesel is an ultra efficient, clean, compact and lightweight engine. With CO2 emissions of only 167g/km, the Subaru Forester comes out head and shoulders above the competition.
I've had large 4x4s in the past and I'm used to a top spec £60,000 BMW X5 or Range Rover, surely the Subaru Forester can't offer me the same sort of equipment for less than half the price?
Well actually it can, Satellite navigation, reversing camera, full leather interior, smart keyless entry system with push button start, heated seats, cruise control, 7 speaker sound system, Bluetooth hands free phone, xenon headlamps, large electric sun roof, the list goes on and on. Really how much more equipment do you need?
But I bet you have to pay extra for all that equipment and the price of the Subaru Forester just mounts up and up?
No, all those features come as standard, included in the price of the Subaru Forester XS Navigation Plus for just £28,995!
Convinced?
