Motorsport
As you would expect from a family run business with a passion for cars, we have a passion for driving them as well! The K T Green Motorsport name has become well known and respected across many types of clubman motorsport over the last few decades, usually because it has been attached to the fastest car!
Chris Green started it all off back in the 60's when he hill climbed and later raced his race spec Austin Healey Sprites. His usual venues were Harewood Hill climb, Baiting's Dam, Rufforth and Croft. Here you can see him in 'SEXI' exiting Orchard bend at Harewood Hill climb. In fact it was at Harewood Hill climb where Chris first met his wife Sue, and later son-in-law Tom would propose to daughter Sally!
The next driver to carry on the K T Green Motorsport name was Howard Quantrill, one of our longest standing technicians. Back in the late 70's / early 80's he became a highly successfull Grass track champion in his trademark Minis which he built and prepared himself. Looking at his 6ft 2" frame, you can't help but wonder how he managed to fit inside one, never mind obliterate the rest of the grid!
At the time of being an Alfa-Romeo dealer, one of our other technicians, John Burrows built and prepared a rally spec Alfa Sud with which he also achieved great success.
Carrying on the tradition of our technicians and motorsport, our oldest technician John Rawling has always been highly involved in motorsport. Starting off as a navigator in many different disciplines of the sport, he has since devoted much of his time to working behind the scenes as a scruitineer, marshall and organiser of events, particularly with our local club Ilkley & District Motor Club.
Incidentally, K T Green have always tried to give a little back to the sport by being long time supporters and sponsors of the 'Ilkley Jubilee Historic Rally' and 'Harewood Hill climb.
After a long spell out of the driving seat, Chris made a return to motorsport in the form of Historic Rallying in the early 90's. Using MGAs which were built from the ground up inside the K T Green workshop, he and fellow Director John Hampshire set off around the world taking part in numerous events, and achieving countless class wins along the way. Later, wife Sue and daughter Sally would take their turns to navigate.

Our Service Manager Simon Green competes regularly in his self built and developed Westfield Duratec. It features a 280bhp 2.3 Ford Duratec engine, is fully road legal and runs on road tyres! With it he holds numerous class records around the country including Harewood Hillclimb, Croft, Three Sisters, Barbon and Scammonden Dam.
He also enjoys competing on clubnight events such as Autotests and PCTs with Ilkley & District Motor Club.
The 2010 season looks set to be another busy one for K T Green Motorsport. We have just finalised a deal with Harewood Hill climb. to be the Class 5 sponsors for this season and will have cars on display at some events. For more information click here. |
